Walk to work day

LEAVE the car at home this Friday and get trekking for the Cancer Council's Walk to Work Day.

The annual event aims to encourage all Australians to walk regularly, to encourage general health and fitness.

Participants are asked to walk to work, or even just part of the way.

Gladstone residents who are keen to get involved can register for free at

Once registered, both individuals and workplaces can opt to build a fundraising page.

All funds will go to the Cancer Council.

Fast facts

  • If you can't walk all the way, use public transport and get off a few stops early and walk the rest of the journey
  • If you must drive, leave the car at least a kilometre from your destination and walk the rest of the way
  • Take a half-hour walk at lunch and where possible, use the stairs
  • If you are required to sit a lot at work, get up and walk around at least once every hour
