CANTERBURY Council is getting behind the national Walk to
Work day this Friday October 2, and everyone is encouraged
to get walking.
Mayor Robert Furolo (pictured) said the initiative is a great
way to kick start a healthy habit and contribute toward a better
environment.
"Walk to Work Day is held annually to remind all Australians
that regular physical activity such as walking is a great way to
not only avoid weight gain but also a range of illnesses includ
inghigh blood pressure and cholesterol, depression, diabetes,
arthritis and cancer," he said.
"Most people are obviously not able to leave their car at home
all the time, but National Walk to Work Day makes us think
about the way we travel and how this affects our health and
our surroundings," Cr Furolo said.
"And remember,
if you can't walk all the way, why not includea walk at
lunch, take the stairs instead of the lift or hop offyour bus a few stops earlier."
