TODAY IS WALK TO WORK DAY
Walk to Work Day 2004
As physical inactivity, mental illness and obesity levels reach an alarming all-time high, Olympic bronze medallist Jane Saville, is asking all Australians to get their health back on track by participating in Walk to Work Day today, Friday, 5 November, 2004 for better health, cleaner air and improved transport.
According to the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing there has been a significant increase in overweight people in Australia in the past twenty years. Today 58% of men, 42% of women and up to 25% of children are considered overweight or obese (overweight is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or greater; obesity is classified as a BMI of 30 or greater).
Incorporating a 30 minute walk into regular activities is a cheap and simple way to better health, contribute to cleaner air and improve our transport networks
