LET'S GET AUSTRALIA WALKING AGAIN

Start Walking Now to Raise Funds for your Favourite Charity

Friday 8 November is National Walk to Work Day. The Pedestrian Council of Australia is encouraging all employers and employees to start walking regularly, to improve their health and well-being and raise funds for their favourite charity.

People who walk before or during work are generally healthier, more productive and less likely to be sick or absent. That’s why organisations should support and promote the WTW program.

One of the best ways to improve your health is to build walking into your daily routine. So put your feet first and support the Walk to Work campaign: It's easy:

  • If you can't walk all the way, use public transport and get off the bus, train, tram or ferry a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way to work.
  • If you need to drive, try to leave the car at least a kilometre from your destination and walk the rest of the way.
  • Take a walk at lunchtime for at least half an hour.
  • Where possible use the stairs rather than escalators or lifts.
  • If you sit a lot at work, walk around at least once every hour or get up to talk to a colleague instead of sending an email.

People can participate as Individuals or create a Team. Organisations may wish to support their employees' fund-raising efforts, or create Organisation/Company Teams.

There is also a FREE WTW App that allows users to map, evaluate and verify their walks. Organisations can also create scoreboards to show and compare the performance of participants who wish to "Take the Challenge”. This dynamic App allows users to track their walks to and from work, or during lunch-time, and will reward them with Frequent Walker Points each time they log a walk. The App can be used for fund-raising
