RESIDENTS are being encouraged to put their best foot forward and participate in Walk to Work Day tomorrow.
Walk to Work Day is an annual, national event in which people are encouraged to leave the car at home and combine walking and public transport to get to and from work.
An initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia (PCA), the event aims to promote walking as an important transport mode and healthy activity, reduce the reliance on cars, promote and improve the use of public transport and improve air quality by reducing unnecessary vehicle emissions.
Employers will be encouraged to be more flexible on start and finish times, and more lenient on dress codes and acceptable footwear.
Ku-ring-gai Mayor Ian Cross is supporting the event.
“I regularly walk with my children,” he said.
“When we can, we walk for our health and relaxation.
“Fewer cars on the road ensures less pollution.
“Council staff will be participating in the day and I would encourage all residents who are able, to join in and become walking class heroes."
