Just the day for a walk

PUT on your runners and walk to work.
That's the challenge from the Pedestrian Council of Australia.
This Friday, all Australians are being encouraged to leave their cars at home and walk to work.
Walk to Work Day is in its fifth year and is designed to raise awareness of the importance of walking as a healthy activity.
Australian track star Matt Shirvington encourages everyone to do what they can for a healthier body and healthier environment.
“Through my involvement with Walk to Work Day, I'm hoping to raise further awareness of this national event so that everybody knows that walking can make a huge difference to their daily lives,” he said.
“Walking and catching public transport creates a win-win situation for everyone as we improve our fitness, the environment, road traffic and transport at the same time.”
On the day, all Australians are encouraged to help Walk to Work Day's four objectives of better health, cleaner air, less traffic and improved transport.
So bring out those runners and help yourself.
