THOUSANDS of Queenslanders are being urged to leave their cars and lace up their walking shoes instead.
Walk to Work Day on Friday is an annual event promoting better health, cleaner air, less traffic and improved public transport.
An initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia with support from the National Heart Foundation, Walk to Work Day will be held in every state and territory.
Pedestrian council chairman Harold Scruby said participants were encouraged to catch public transport to within walking distance of work and walk the rest of the way.
