THOUSANDS of Sydneysiders said goodbye to traffic snarls and -- hopefully -- arrived at work full of energy yesterday after taking part in Walk to Work Day.

All over Sydney, workers left their cars behind and travelled to work on foot.

Some commuters, especially in Sydney's western suburbs, combined walking with public transport.

The day was billed as the most successful in the event's history. The busiest footpath in Sydney was the Harbour Bridge walkway, brimming with sneaker-clad office workers.

The national event is organised by the Pedestrian Council of Australia and supported by the Heart Foundation.
