WHAT IS WALK TO WORK DAY?

National Walk to Work Day (WTWD) is an annual event held around Australia on Friday 5 October 2007, which promotes better health and a cleaner environment.  By registering at www.walk.com.au individuals, businesses and organisations can help to improve our health and environment, while supporting four major Australian charities.

THE AIMS OF WTWD ARE:

  • To promote regular walking as a healthy activity (better physical, mental and social health).
  • To reduce the reliance on the private motor vehicle (reduce car-dependency).
  • To promote and improve the use of public transport (less traffic).
  • To improve air quality by reducing unnecessary vehicle emissions (reduce contribution to climate change).
  • To raise funds for the Heart Foundation, the Cancer Council, Diabetes Australia and the Australian Conservation Foundation.  All these charities promote regular walking as a great way to Better Health and Cleaner Air.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

To become a Walking Class Hero, participants can register at www.walk.com.au. Each participant will then receive a WTWD kit including a WTWD cap and information flyer. Registration costs a donation fee of $20. Funds received will be divided equally amongst the four charities.

BUSINESS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Regular physical activity, particularly walking, has been shown to greatly reduce sick-leave and improve productivity. WTWD is a great way for companies to create a morale-building group event, while supporting these leading charities.

We challenge all Australian businesses and organisations to sponsor all employees who commit to walking at least one kilometre on Friday 5 October. For more information, log onto our web-site at www.walk.com.au and simply follow the prompts.

So, Put Your Feet First, Unblock Some Arteries, Relieve the Congestion, and support four of Australia’s most important charities. Register today at www.walk.com.au
