SA SIGNS UP TO WALK FOR BETTER HEALTH

With the campaign only a month old, South Australian employers are registering to be Walking Workplaces for National Walk to Work Day.

Already 30 employers across the State have registered online and include health-conscious organisations such as SA Water, Sydac Pty Ltd (defence industry), the offices of State MPs Rachel Sanderson and Ivan Venning, and City of Unley.

Individual pledges are also rolling in with nearly 200 South Australians already registered to walk extra kilometres.

PCA Chairman Harold Scruby says people who walk before and during work are healthier, more alert and productive in their jobs, and less likely to take sick leave.

The event is on 1 October and is completely free. Employers can gain health and other benefits for their workforce by registering with the Pedestrian Council of Australia as a Walking Workplace at www.walk.com.au.

Individuals can register to Pledge to Put their Feet First and win a walking holiday for two people thanks to wotif.com or one of 250 new pairs of Rockport shoes valued at $200 a pair.
