CE - RTA Dear Paul As stated many times before, we are seeing an increasing number of vehicles with illegally tinted, opaque, front side windows. It appears many of these vehicles are getting past your RTA Inspectors and the Police would appear to be treating the problem as low priority. There are many reasons the Government, the Police and the RTA should be taking this offence very seriously. 1 Drivers cannot be identified in serious driving offences eg hit-run or fail to stop (eg Macquarie Fields) 2 Drivers and associates cannot be identified in police chases where they get away eg bank robberies, serious crime etc 3 Drivers and their associates cannot be identified in cases where national security could be at risk 4 Drivers and passengers cannot be identified in Transit Lanes 5 Other drivers cannot see the eyes or faces of the drivers of these vehicles at intersections (intuitive driving) 6 The drivers of these vehicles cannot see out of these vehicles with safety, especially at night. Some of the worst offenders are Hire Car owners and drivers. And of course the show-off, rich-kids, hoon element (see photos). It is quite costly to tint these windows and I would be very surprised if these vehicles had not been through RTA Inspections and blind eyes turned (pardon the pun, but they were probably inspecting from the inside of these vehicles). This problem needs a complete overhaul along with all the other Inspection problems. I have already told you I have a friend in the motor-trade who can get pink-slips over the phone. What have we got to do to get a full-scale inquiry into RTA Inspections to include number-plates, tow-bars, raised and modified vehicles, tinting etc etc? Finally, would you please advise the outcome of your recall of these two vehicles. I hope we're going to see Demerit Points and a hefty fine for this offence in the very near future.
