Fight speed at lights

SPEED cameras should be installed in all ”black spot intersection” traffic lights across NSW to help reduce road fatalities, lobby groups have urged.

A dual-functioning red light speed camera has been proposed as a way of combating the rising death toll on NSW roads.

In a fortnight, 65 such cameras will begin functioning across Victoria.

The camera will work in two ways; catching drivers who run red lights as well as those who speed across intersections, even on a green light. Drivers who speed through a red light would be issued with two tickets.

Pedestrian Council of Australia chairman Harold Scruby has called on the NSW government to adopt the initiative.
