40km/h for CBD

ALL CBD speed limits should be dropped to 40km/h before the Olympics, the Pedestrian Council of Australia said today.

Pedestrian Council Chairman Harold Scruby said foreign visitors in 2000 would be sitting ducks for fast moving traffic when they stepped off the footpath looking in the wrong direction.

Reducing the speed limit would make Sydney a safer and a more pleasant city for locals and visitors, Mr Scruby said.

The Council has written to Lord Mayor Frank Sartor and Premier Bob Carr with the proposal.
