AN "eyes wide shut" culture existed towards taxi drivers, armoured car drivers and others who parked in no parking zones with impunity, a pedestrian advocacy group said yesterday. Parking officers had a culture in which people involved in commercial activity would not be booked if they parked on pedestrian crossings or similar areas, Pedestrian Council of Australia (PCA) chairman Harold Scruby said. "We're now challenging NSW Police Commissioner Peter Ryan to come clean on this and get his parking officers to put safety first and commercialism second," he said. "At the moment commercialism comes a long way in front of safety. |
