IN an age when the car rules supreme, walking has almost become a lost pastime.
But National Walk To Work Day aims to change the unhealthy habits of Australians.
The first ever Walk To Work Day, supported by the National Heart Foundation, will be held on Friday.
All Australians are encouraged to leave the car at home and walk, even if only to the station. Apart from getting a cardiovascular work-out, we can use the time to enjoy our surroundings.
“Walking should be a part of everyone's daily routine,” said Olympic legend Herb Elliott, an enthusiastic Walk To Work Day supporter.
“Personally, I find walking incredibly enjoyable. It makes me feel healthier, it can also be loads of fun
and meditational without any delays or traffic hassles.”
