Friday is walk to school day

Alanna, Toby, Zac and Bronie Condon (Parkes Public) walk to school this week with mum, Jean.
As more and more Australian children are becoming obese or overweight, primary school children, teachers, parents and carers throughout Parkes are being urged to join their Aussie counterparts to participate in this Friday's fifth annual Walk Safely to School Day.

Local schools participating in WSTSD are Parkes Public School, Holy Family Catholic School,Trundle Central School, St Patrick's Catholic College and St Joseph's School.

An initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia (PCA), the promotion aims to encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school children to develop healthy lifestyle habits at a young age and educate children on safe pedestrian behaviour.

According to the Australian Federal Government report, Healthy Weight 2008, more than a third of Australian children between the ages of 7-11 years old are overweight or obese.
