Walk to School Day

NATIONAL Walk Safely to School Day is on Friday, and local students are invited to take part.

The event promotes regular walking, reduced cardependency, cleaner air, improved diets, public transport and reinforces road-crossing skills.

Parents, carers and pupils can go online to find and plan their best walking route to school at Surveys indicate more than 60 per cent of primary school aged children are driven to school.

If current trends continue, more than one in three children will be overweight or obese by 2020.

Students are encouraged to walk to school with a parent or carer.

If you must use the car, leave it a good distance from the school and walk the rest of the way.

MEET ZUMA: Zuma loves to play, has a big grateful purr and is a quiet and cuddly sleeping partner. Aged 10 weeks, he is ready to become part of a family. If you can offer a loving home, call 0414 449 045.

Options are offered for discounted sterilisation, mirochipping and vaccinations.
