Hitting the road for health

Sarah Hunt, Abigail Amoah and Martin Di Giovanni will walk to school on Friday.

WEST Balcatta Primary School will again take part in National Walk Safely to School Day on Friday, May 18.

The annual event, now in its 13th year, encourages families across Australia to walk their children to school, promoting regular walking, reduced car-dependency, cleaner air, improved diets, public transport, and reinforcing vital road-crossing skills.

Deputy principal Annalyn Puehringer said the initiative was positive and something the school took part in regularly.

“We endeavour to organise regular ‘walk to school’ days, at least two per term,” Ms Puehringer said.
“We try to tie them in with national events and encourage all our students to take part.

“It definitely promotes health and community spirit and many of the families do enjoy getting involved. It really is a good initiative.”

Other schools taking part in the initiative include Yuluma, Lake Gwelup and Takari primary schools
