Walk to Work Day

Tomorrow is Walk to Work Day. CFA, like thousands of organisations all over the country, is supporting employees in building regular walking into their daily routine.

Regular walking has been shown to improve people’s productivity and people who walk often are less likely to be absent or take sick-leave from work. Regular walking can also help relieve feelings of depression or anxiety. And it improves our environment by reducing car dependency.

Even if you can’t walk all the way to work tomorrow, try to increase the amount of walking you do at work.

Here are some things that will increase your walking at work:

  • If you drive, park your car at least a kilometre from work and walk the rest of the way.
     Get off the bus, train, or tram a few stops early and walk the rest of your journey.
  • Use the stairs instead of the lift.
  • Get out in the sunshine and take a half-hour walk at lunchtime.
  • If you sit a lot at work, get up and walk around the office every hour.
  • Walk to your colleague’s desk to ask the question rather than phoning or emailing.


Walk to Work Day is now in its 13th year. To register your involvement in the day, go towww.walk.com.au  All registered walkers will receive a $25 voucher for Rockport shoes and go into the draw for a walking holiday for two to the Bay of Fires in Tasmania.
