NOVA 100.3 (Melbourne) Breakfast - 02/05/2008 - 08:23 AM Kate Langbroek and Dave Hughes Producer Ms Sacha French 03 8420 3999
Regular Segment: Jason Akermanis, player, Western Bulldogs FC Akermanis will today take part in Walk Safely to School Day today. He says he read the Melways and is off to St Mary's Primary School in Williamstown. Hughesy says while Akermanis was on Before the Game weeks ago, last night Akermanis was on Channel Nine's The Footy Show and witness the shows response to complaints by women in the AFL to one of Sam Newman's skits. Akermanis says the show spent a lot of time justifying the skit, but he did not get involved. Hughesy says the show had a go at Sue Alberti, a Western Bulldogs FC director, for being against the skit but wanting tables to the show. Hughesy says the issues is deeper that what is presented and is almost like the Aboriginal issue in AFL as women in AFL feel like a minority and do not want to be mocked. Akermanis says the AFL is trying hard to include women in the sport and maybe one day a woman will play in the AFL. [cont] © Media Monitors 2008
