WITH the exhausting City to Surf and gruelling marathon completed, Sydney's next mass exercise event seems like a walk in the park.
But while it is sedate in comparison, the message of Walk to Work Day is anything but pedestrian.
The ninth national Walk to Work Day will be held on Friday, October 6, with companies encouraged to provide their participating workforce with healthy breakfasts
The event is designed to encourage all Australians to develop regular walking habits and promote better health, cleaner air, less traffic and decreased use of public transport.
Pedestrian Council of Australia chairman Harold Scruby said walk-
ing was the first step towards personal and environmental health.
``With our current habits, Australians are predicted to be fatter than Americans by 2020. Making time to walk every day and eating healthy food will help to prevent this,'' Mr Scruby said.
