Push Bike Death

The Sun-Herald

Sunday 14 May 1995
A Bicycle courier knocked down a middle-aged pedestrian who later died, the Rocks police confirmed yesterday.

Bob Roney, 50, of Belrose was hit while crossing York Street during peak hour on March 30, suffering head injuries. He collapsed in Ryde Hospital while undergoing rehabilitation.

The issue of bicycles and pedestrians is to be considered by the State Parliament's Committee on Road Safety (Staysafe) inquiry into pedestrian safety, a spokesman said.

On Thursday, bicycle courier Scott Gowers, 24, was run over by a government bus after a collision in Elizabeth Street. Gowers was a Briton on a working holiday with his girlfriend.
