Chief Superintendent Hartley said.

"The road is not a place to gamble with your life and that of your loved ones."

Some examples of other inappropriate driver behaviour detected on the final day of Operation Stay Alert:

A 17-year-old provisional licence holder has been fined after police observed him allegedly doing a 'burnout' about 4.30pm at Dapto yesterday.

Traffic was virtually halted due to the excessive amount of smoke generated just as a result of the burnout. The teenager was fined $450 and his vehicle was confiscated and impounded for three months.
