Walk to School in Wynn Vale
MORE than 200 Wynn Vale Primary students will pound the pavements today for Walk Safely to School Day.
Students will start the day with a healthy breakfast at Jubilee Community House before walking to school with a police escort.
Principal Jan Slape hopes the school’s first participation in the national event will raise awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles.
“We need to consider our transport habits and we’re trying to incorporate more walking in a healthy active lifestyle,” Ms Slape says.
“It is definitely something we could improve on.”
Mrs Slape hopes the event will encourage more parents to walk their children to school.
“I know in one street there are three families who walk together, (with) the parents taking it in turns to walk the children to school,” she says.
“We don’t have a large number of walkers.”
