Best foot forward in Payneham
HUNDREDS of students will pound the pavement for Walk Safely to School Day today.
Youngsters from St Joseph’s School in Payneham will be among those to swap cars for footpaths to encourage road safety and healthy living.
“We have been educating the children about recycling, clean energy and ecological awareness, and this is just an extension of that,” deputy principal Ingrid Douventzidis says.
“We want the students to experience clean air and learn how they clean up their lives by doing healthy things, such as walking to school.
Ms Douventzidis says most students are dropped off at school by their parents or caregivers or take public transport.
“We only have a few who ride to school, even though most live around the corner,” she says.
“We want to teach their are other ways to get to school and fun ways.”
