Forget the car, walk to school on Friday

PRIMARY school children are encouraged to unbuckle their seatbelts and travel to school on foot as part of Walk Safely to School Day on Friday, May 18.

It is part of an annual national campaign to teach children about pedestrian safety and the importance of regular exercise, and kids can embrace the "Active Kids are Healthy Kids" message by walking to or from school with a parent or carer.

If car travel is a must, the Pedestrian Council of Australia suggests parking a few minutes away and walking from there.

Students at Spearwood Primary School will take part on Friday, meeting at a nearby park to walk a walking bus’ to school, before enjoying a healthy breakfast on arrival.
