Watch out for children walking to school

MORE than a quarter of Australian children are overweight or obese.

Walk Safely to School Day is an event which acts as a catalyst to get children and their parents and carersto use more "active transport" by promoting community awareness of the need to walk more and regularly for better health and road safety.

Walking improves a child’s psychological wellbeing and mental health, metabolism, muscle strength and flexibility, strength and endurance, respiratory function, concentration and memory, immune system and energy levels.

Friday, May 18, is Walk Safelyto School Day.

This is an annual national event when all primary school children will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school.
