Kids step out for Walk Safely to School

Hundreds of school children throughout the Illawarra are expected to hit the pavement this Friday and participate in Walk Safely to School Day.

Even children younger than five years old will take part, with youngsters from Bellambi Point Community Preschool set to walk to Bellambi Public School as part of the event, run by the Pedestrian Council of Australia.

The preschool children will be welcomed by the popular Transition to School mascot Billy Backpack and school principal Jacqui Katford.

Transition to School program co-ordinator Shabnam Hinton said the walk was an important part of the 2013 school starters’ transition to school.

"The walk to school will provide a great opportunity to talk about road safety aud waitiug for the erossiug guard," she said.
