Walk Safely to School Day is an initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia sponsored by the Australian Government and supported by a wide range of private and public organisations.

Students are be able to walk with a friend or family member, and younger students should walk with a responsible adult.

Some objectives of this activity are to promote the health benefits of walking and assist students to develop the vital road crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians.
If possible, the school crossing can be included in the walk and students have been asked by teachers to be watchful near driveways.

"We are also asking those parents who have to drive to leave the car a good distance from school and walk the rest of the way," a spokesperson for the school said.
"Walkers will be welcomed at the school gates by school leaders, who will assist them to register and will distribute promotional stickers as rewards.

"Please support this worthwhile activity as our students learn healthy and safe pedestrian practices."
